As Assistive Technology professionals, we don’t just solve problems… we help shape the next generation of practitioners. Yet many AT roles are self-constructed, leaving little time to reflect on how we mentor, model practice, and intentionally share our expertise. This session centers on the consultant as a mentor. Part of Being an AT Consultant Is Passing on Your Knowledge. Whether you support teams in schools, rehabilitation settings, or community programs, you play a critical role in growing others’ confidence and competence in AT. Together, we will explore effective, capacity-building consultation, including structuring learning opportunities during site visits, facilitating meetings that empower teams, defining training content for diverse audiences, and collaborating effectively with vendors and agencies. Participants will also reflect on how their own professional technology usage models the habits they want emerging AT professionals to adopt. Using the updated Walk the Talk Matrix, attendees will leave with a practical plan for mentoring and developing future AT consultants.
