Follow a fictional student through their day at university and the many opportunities to use Assistive Technology to facilitate learning. From using AT on a phone during the journey in the morning, wearing dBuds to reduce noise, improving focus and learning in lectures, reading academic journals, planning essays, writing assignments, proofreading, organizing work and learning how to get the most out of technology for learning even at 2am! This session will highlight opportunities to use AT not just because it’s there, but because it will boost confidence, increase efficiency and in return, motivate learning.
The session will provide insights into how a wide variety of Assistive Technology can support many tasks a student needs to do, that disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, anxiety and fatigue causes barriers to their learning.
Mary has worked in the assistive technology sector for 9 years demonstrating all kinds of tech for both education and the workplace. She is vice chair of the Educator's special interest group at the British Assistive Technology Association (BATA) and was a teacher for 17 years.
